| Find The Humanity © 2008 J Picken At present the world falters and stumbles economically whilst, we, the people hold our breaths awaiting the news of a positive up turn on the stock market. I am not American; neither do I reside in that country. What I do know is that if the U.S stumbles, ripples are felt world wide and it affects my country. I can deal with the economic stress, the uncertainty and the not knowing what the future will bring in the world of money and stock brokerage. What I cannot deal with is the way this affects my friends across the sea. It’s not just the fact that they face financial issues, that perhaps their great government is not doing enough to support them, it’s more the emotional toll it’s taking. Let’s get past the cold, hard facts and tune into the humanity. People need to live, emotionally, spiritually and physically. Each and every one of us, at some time in our lives requires support. Support may come in different ways by giving or receiving money, giving or receiving shelter or simply by providing emotional support. More important then ever, we need to stand together. We need to look at what we have now, not what we might lose or what the future might bring. “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” Theodore Roosevelt. Nothing is ever guaranteed in life, there’s always a constant ebb and flow, we need to hang onto what we have. What do we have? Family, friends, a place we call home, nourishment. Sure perhaps they are not exactly in the quality we would like, but bottom line is we do have them. Most of all we have each other. The presidential race is fraught with racism, bigotry and plain out abuse. We do not need to sink to that level. Let’s focus on who we are not what we are, once again lets return to the humanity factor. I do not care for one moment if my best friend is pink with purple dots; I do not care where she lives nor how much money she has. What I do care about is her soul, her energy, her spirit. I care about that intricate part which makes us all unique, that part which makes us who we are, the part where love, courage, strength, compassion and empathy spring forth. "To be a friend means encourage strengths in others and accepting their weaknesses; in other words, accepting them for who they are." Catherine Pulsifer. Acceptance no matter what. How interesting and refreshing would it be if each presidential candidate actually sung the praises of the other. A novel idea at best, some may say futile. Once again the humanity factor is forgotten, we have a habit of doing that, forgetting the intricacies of life and in doing that we forget who we are. As a race, we have much to learn. At times we tend to miss the essence of life in pursuit of frivolous possessions and pastimes. Power and money. Power belongs to only God, money belongs to those who worship it. “He that is of the opinion money will do everything may well be suspected of doing everything for money.” Benjamin Franklin I will not allow those with the power, those will the money to impact on my friendships, relationships, my life. I chose to change my mind set.” If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude. Don't complain.” Maya Angelou |
